It has been a while since I have posted anything on my blog. I’ve been kinda busy. So here I go.
I cannot say how proud I am to be an educator in Santa Fe South Schools. I work with a group of people that are extremely overworked and underappreciated by the “People in Power” here in Oklahoma. My teachers have been down at the State Capitol every day since the walkout has started. They are passionate, adamant, loyal, and relentless in their fight not for money, not for supplies, not for text books, but RESPECT.
RESPECT garners the money, the supplies to do a good job, and the resources (textbooks) that they deserve. Teaching is the most noble profession that I know. Every legislature that is voting against giving what our student deserves need to follow a simple philosophy that I live by in my own financial world.
If we have a deficit financially for what we want to do we must do one of three things:
- Make more money
- Spend less money
- Make more money AND spend less money
My recommendation is to do the 3rd option, you’ll get to your goal faster.
This requires republican AND democrats to remember that they are serving the people of this state and NOT the party that they are registered. (I used lower case on republicans and democrats on purpose) I ask you to remember that you made promises to get elected. You made those promises to the people of this state, NOT to your party. Step up! Step out! or Step off! Let people who have integrity (a word you would have learned from a teacher) take your place and let them lead our state.
A tidbit of information, to become a school board member in the State of Oklahoma all you need is:
- High School Diploma
- An address in that school district
With these two simple qualifications our 520 school districts do a better job of managing the finances(as small as they may be) than our state legislator. I believe this is because they are making decisions, for the most part, for CITIZENS in their community. I just want to remind you that WE ARE CITIZENS IN YOUR COMMUNITY. Get to know a teacher and let their love and passion rub off on you. You are where you are because of at least one great teacher.
Thank you for being one of the 5 readers that will read this blog. I now feel better.
