Franko wins first championship for Santa Fe South Pathways
Erik Franko of Santa Fe South Pathways Middle College became the first runner from his school to win a state title.
The senior finished his run in 16:20.51 for the 2A championship and was 28.02 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.
Santa Fe South Pathways is on the campus of Oklahoma City Community College but is in the same school district as Santa Fe South. The two schools share the same cross country coach.
This was the inaugural season for Santa Fe South Pathways. Although Franko attended Santa Fe South Pathways throughout high school, he competed for Santa Fe South until this year.
“It feels great,” Franko said. “I got injured last year, so I missed most of my summer training, and I just wasn’t expecting to finish first.”
